The Point by Colson Center

Mar 27, 2019

Like a bad disco song from the 70s, New Age spirituality is back, and business is booming. A recent WORLD magazine article details the growing popularity of crystals, meditation, fortune-telling, and more.

As the culture continues its retreat from Christianity, it’s no surprise that people are turning to these things—for meaning, for healing, even to contact departed loved ones. As G. K. Chesterton observed, when people stop believing in God, the problem is not that they believe in nothing, but that they will believe in anything.

But far more surprising to me is the fact that 19 percent of church-going evangelicals believe in reincarnation, and 33 percent believe in psychics.

Billy Graham once warned us, “I urge you, as strongly as I know how, not to dabble … in anything to do with occult practices… At best, they are deceptive and fraudulent; at worst, they can involve you in matters which are satanic in origin.”

Well, that’s a crystal-clear warning, if you ask me.
